Ascalon: range of propellers for direct-drive engines – tests in progress

Testing of this new range of propellers for direct drive engines continues.

Here tests are made on the 2-blade Ascalon, full carbon with Titanium leading edge, diameter 190 cm/ 74.8 inch, weight 6 kg, with ELIAS recording system

DAU (Data Acquisition System), designed and manufactured by the E-Props design department, allows to obtain the following parameters at each moment of the flight:

  • propeller thrust
  • propeller torque
  • static et dynamic pressures
  • engine RPM
  • engine T° and manifold pressure
  • angle of attack and angle of sideslip

A complex system of different types of sensors, electronic card and strain gauges is integrated in the propeller’s hub, on the feet of the blades, and on other key places of the airplane. During the flight, thousands of measurements are sent in real time via Wifi to a computer located in the aircraft, as well as to a display that allows the pilot to refine his flight according to the requested parameters.

Research as advanced as that carried out by E-Props requires a great deal of time, engineering and motivation. ☺️
