Turbo Shark certified in Germany – with Glorieuse propeller

A major milestone for the Turbo Shark — SHARK 600 T: the German aviation authority DULV has issued the Type Certificate for the aircraft, enabling smooth registration in Germany and facilitating registration in other countries.
After several years of development, integration and flight testing, this certification marks an important step in bringing the Turbo Shark’s high-speed, high-altitude performance to the European 600 kg light aircraft market.


And at the heart of this remarkable aircraft is a particularly coherent propulsion package: Edge Performance EP914Ti Gen2 engine + E-PROPS GLORIEUSE Constant Speed propeller.

Turbocharged performance deserves the right propeller
The Turbo Shark was designed to fly faster and higher while retaining the efficiency that has always been part of the Shark philosophy.
Shark.Aero announces 126 hp, a maximum cruise TAS of 335 km/h at FL100, 320 km/h at 75% power, with a fuel consumption of 21 l/h at 75% power. The aircraft is designed for operation up to 24,000 ft with its oxygen system.
These figures are impressive, but engine power alone does not make an efficient aircraft.
Power still has to be converted into thrust — efficiently, throughout take-off, climb, cruise and high-altitude flight.
That is precisely the role of the propeller.

Why SHARK AERO chose the E-PROPS GLORIEUSE

For the Turbo Shark, SHARK AERO selected the E-PROPS GLORIEUSE Constant Speed propeller.
This choice is particularly significant because the EP914Ti Gen2 places high demands on the propeller: turbocharged power, a wide operating envelope and very different requirements between take-off, climb and fast cruise.
A Constant Speed system allows the propeller pitch to continuously adapt to flight conditions while maintaining the selected engine rpm. But not all Constant Speed propellers achieve this with the same mass, responsiveness or aerodynamic matching.

This is where the GLORIEUSE is different.
The GLORIEUSE range was developed specifically for geared engines based on the Rotax 9xx architecture, including Edge Performance and other conversions, with applications up to 185 hp. Rather than using one generic blade and simply adapting its diameter, E-PROPS develops different blade geometries and diameters according to engine power, gearbox ratio and aircraft installation.
For a high-performance aircraft, that matching matters.

Only 4 kg for the complete Constant Speed system
Weight is another decisive factor.
The complete 3-blade GLORIEUSE system — propeller, governor, regulator and spinner — weighs only 4 kg. The blades are manufactured from high-fibre-ratio carbon composite and protected by E-PROPS titanium leading edges.
Saving weight on the nose of an aircraft is particularly valuable: it contributes directly to useful load and aircraft balance while keeping rotating masses exceptionally low.
But lightness alone is not enough.

The GLORIEUSE combines this extremely low mass with a hydraulic pitch actuator under electronic control, offering very fast regulation. The system can move from minimum to maximum pitch in less than three seconds.
The objective is simple: give the engine the propeller pitch it needs, when it needs it.

  • During take-off, the priority is thrust and acceleration.
  • During climb, it is efficient conversion of available engine power.
  • At altitude and in fast cruise, the propeller must absorb that power efficiently at a very different advance ratio.

A properly matched Constant Speed propeller makes it possible to optimise all of these flight phases instead of accepting a compromise designed around only one of them.

The Turbo Shark is a good illustration of a principle we strongly believe in at E-PROPS: a high-performance aircraft should be considered as a complete system.
Airframe aerodynamics, engine, gearbox and propeller have to work together.

SHARK AERO’s choice of the GLORIEUSE is therefore more than a question of installing a lightweight propeller.
It is the choice of a Constant Speed system whose philosophy matches that of the Turbo Shark itself: minimum unnecessary mass, high responsiveness and maximum use of the available power.

And the same engineering logic applies far beyond the Turbo Shark.
The GLORIEUSE range is available for Rotax 912, 912S, 912ULS, 912iS, 914, 915iS and 916iS engines, as well as compatible high-performance conversions such as Edge Performance and EPA Power.
So whether the objective is better take-off performance, stronger climb, efficient cruise, reduced weight or simply extracting more useful performance from an existing engine installation, choosing the right propeller can transform the aircraft.

Because adding horsepower is one way to improve performance.
Making better use of every horsepower is another.
