STOL competition in Belmont

Last Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July a STOL (Short Take-Off & Landing) competition took place on the Belmont-Saint Affrique airfield in South Aveyron (France).

The take-off and landing rolling distances are cumulated. Here are the results :

1st : Eric GRARE – Prototype Ultralight – Rotax 912S – Carbon E-Props 3-Blade Propeller – Titanium Super STOL profile 190 cm => 17,8 m
2nd : Jean-Daniel ROMAN – Super Guépard – Rotax 912S – Carbon E-Props 3-Blade Propeller – Titanium Super STOL profile 190 cm => 28,3 m
Congratulations to the winners, with a great piloting, adapted ultralights and… a judicious choice of propeller !

Take-off Eric Grare
Landing Eric Grare

3rd : Jean-Louis SCHLESSER – Zenair 701 – Rotax 912S – 3-blade propeller Duc => 31,4 m

E-PROPS propeller critics, those who claim that such thin blades cannot give enough thrust, will be disappointed…
What if the thin E-PROPS blades “pull” better than the others, after all ?

Of the 25 ultralights participating in this competition, many were equipped with E-PROPS propellers, but only the first two flew with the new V20 propellers with Super STOL profiles.
