In 2018, the pilot-owner of a Sky Arrow equipped with a Rotax 912 (80 hp) has chosen a 3-blade E-Props propeller (Excalibur-3), diameter 168 cm, weight 2,7 kg.
Here is the feedback of this pilot, after 3 years of using this propeller on his aircraft.
“Key points are :
1. The e-prop is 6 Kg lighter than the in flight variable pitch prop originally fitted so that is a good weight saving to start
2. The e-props is very resistant to leading edge damage. Again the original (ARPLAST PV50) had to have leading edge repairs at least 2 x per year. So far after 3 years, no damage to the e-prop
3. Take Off RPM = 5,180 on average – no noticeable difference in ground run or climb rate and certainly more relaxing than using 5,800 rpm on the previous prop.
4. Less complex to operate – no messing with prop pitch in flight
5. Cruise RPM between 5,000 and 5,200 – 82Kts to 88 Kts
6. Apart from bolt torque, no stripping and servicing every 100 hours
7. Very smooth – virtually no prop vibration.
It was a very good decision to buy the e-prop and I do recommend to friends who ask about it.”
